Guilherme Melich is a visual artist born in Rio de Janeiro city, in 1985. He moved to Minas Gerais as a teenager, and there he developed his interest for music and visual arts. Initially attracted by graphic arts, he joins the Arts and Design college in his city, Juiz de Fora, in 2004, where he gradually falls for fine arts, specially painting.
It then turns to be his main activity during his studies, which leads him to his graduation in 2008. The result of this process is his first individual exhibition, called "Úlcera Nervosa"(2009), a multi-sensory installation testing the possibilities and boundaries of painting as a contemporary and still expressive media. Since then he keeps creating using primarily drawing and painting as favorite medias, and after a while, extending that to etching.
In 2011 he starts his first studio, and at the same time he becomes a drawing teacher in the Art and Design Institute at the same institution where he graduated. Both facts offers him the opportunity to intensify and improve his art work, leading him to his second individual exhibition, entitled "Corpo [Matéria]"(2012). This exhibition gathers six different work series developed simultaneously between 2010 and 2012, presenting mostly paintings, some drawings and a few etchings.
After a long pause on the constant production, he takes back on his activity as full-time artist in 2016. Now at a new studio, his major goal is to work on portraits, mostly of people in his intimate circle, or people that incites him somehow.
His recent production flows over a figurative zone that flirts both with the potentialities of abstraction, especially regarding the plastic qualities of painting with his vast and charged pigmenting, and realism, with a close eye on the world that surrounds and fascinates him.
